Superleague Cup 2019: 1st Round

Apr 14. 1st round of Superleague Cup 2019 is being played now.

All 26 teams from Superleague take part of the Cup. Six best placed teams in Superleague start in eighth-finals. All series are two-legged except the final match which takes place in Córdoba on June 2nd. Away goals are important. Champions qualify for Libertadores Cup 2020 and runners-up for South American Cup 2020.


Conquistadores Cup 2018: River champions

Dec 9. In the second leg of the final, River beat Boca 3-1 at Santiago Bernabéu stadium! Boca went ahead with goal from Benedetto (44). Pratto managed to draw for River (68) and took the game to extra time. Boca lost Barrios after a red card (92) and River finally won with goals from Quintero (109) and 'Pity' Martínez (122). Goals and celebration. River won their fourth Cup and qualified for Club World Cup 2018, South American Supercup and Libertadores Cup 2019.

Nov 11. In the first leg, Boca and River drew 2-2 at the 'Chocolate Box' stadium. 'Xeneizes' went ahead twice with one goal from Ábila (34) and a header from Benedetto (45). 'Millonaires' could tie twice with one goal from Pratto (35) and an own goal from Izquierdoz (61).


Racing take advantage

Sep 29. In week 7 of Superleague 2018/19, Racing beat Argentinos Jrs 2-0 at Diego Maradona stadium with a header from Cristaldo (31) and a penalty from Lisandro López (50). Goals.

San Lorenzo - At.Tucumán was suspended because of rain.

Sep 28. River hammered Lanús 5-1 at the 'Fortress'. They were losing with goal from Maciel (17) but they turned the scoring around with goals from Scocco (28), Ibáñez (own goal, 53), Lollo (header, 58), De la Cruz (64) and Palacios (71). Goals.

Racing lead the standings with 19 points followed by At.Tucumán and Huracán with 14, River and Boca with 13 and Defensa y Justicia, Unión and Aldosivi with 12. In week 8, on Saturday, Aldosivi host San Martín de Tucumán. On Sunday, Racing host Boca, At.Tucumán host Lanús and Unión visit Rosario Central. River-Defensa and Huracán-Argentinos were postponed because of Youth Olympic Games which take place in Buenos Aires.

From 1st to 4th will qualify to Libertadores Cup 2019 (with Argentina Cup champions and Superleague Cup champions) and from 6th to 9th will qualify to South American Cup 2019.


Argentina Cup: Boca eliminated

Sep 27. In eighth-finals of Argentina Cup 2018, Boca lost 1-0 to Gimnasia (Jan Hurtado, 90).

Sep 12. River beat Platense 2-0. (65 Pratto, 82 Scocco, both penalties).

Champions qualify for Libertadores Cup 2019.


South American Cup 2018: Defensa y Justicia to quarter-finals

Sep 27. In the second leg of eighth-finals, Defensa y Justicia beat Banfield 2-0 at Florencio Sola stadium with a header from Barboza (75) and one goal from Aliseda (95). Goals. In quarter-finals, the 'Falcon' wait for winners of Colón-Junior.
Aug 21. In the first leg, Defensa y Justicia and Banfield ended in a scoreless draw in Florencio Verela. Box score.

Sep 26. In the first leg of eighth-finals, Colón lost 1-0 to Junior in Barranquilla with goal from Barrera at 72nd minute. Second leg takes place at the 'Cemetery of the Elephants' on Thursday 4.

Sep 25. In the second leg of eighth-finals, San Lorenzo lost 2-0 to Nacional in Montevideo with goals from Zunino (10) and Bergessio (55). Goals. The 'Cyclone' were eliminated because of away goals.
Aug 22. In the first leg, San Lorenzo beat Nacional de Montevideo 3-1 at the 'New Gasometre' stadium with one own goal from Erramuspe (19) and two goals from Blandi (32, 80 -penalty-). Bergessio had closed the gap from a penalty for 'Bolso' (70). Goals.


Suruga Bank Cup: Independiente champions

Aug 8. In Suruga Bank Cup 2018, Independiente (champions of South American Cup 2017) beat Cerezo Osaka (champions of Japanese League Cup) 1-0 in Osaka with goal from Silvio Romero at 28th minute. 'Red Devils' won their 18th international title and reached Boca. But we only count Libertadores Cups. Other Cups are just marketing Cups, even Intercontinental Cups.

This cup is not important at all but winners count it as a new international title.


The miracle was made

Jun 26. In the third match of group D, Argentina beat Nigeria 2-1 in Saint Petersburg with goals from Messi (14) and Rojo (86). Moses had scored the equaliser from a penalty (51). Highlights. Argentina lined up: Armani; Mercado, Otamendi, Rojo, Tagliafico (80 Agüero); Enzo Pérez (61 Pavón), Mascherano, Banega, Di María (71 Meza); Messi, Higuaín.

Croatia won group D with 9 points followed by Argentina with 4 and Nigeria with 3. In eighth-finals, Argentina face France in Kazan on Saturday, 11 am.

Jun 21. In the second match, Argentina were hammered 3-0 by Croatia in Nizhni Novgorod with goals from Rebic (53) after kepeer Caballero's blooper, Modric (80) and Rakitic (91). Highlights. Argentina lined up: Caballero; Mercado, Otamendi, Tagliafico; Salvio (56 Pavón), Mascherano, Enzo Pérez (68 Dybala), Acuña; Meza; Messi, Agüero (54 Higuaín).

Jun 16. In the first match, Argentina drew 1-1 with Iceland in Moscow. They went ahead with goal from Agüero (19) but Iceland managed to draw with goal from Finnbogason (23). Halldórsson saved a penalty shot by Messi (64). Highlights. Argentina lined up: Caballero; Salvio, Otamendi, Rojo, Tagliafico; Mascherano, Biglia (54 Banega); Meza (84 Higuaín), Messi, Di María (75 Pavón); Agüero.

May 29. In a too friendly game at the 'Chocolate Box' stadium, Argentina hammered Haiti 4-0 with a hat trick from Messi (17 -penalty-, 58, 66). Kun Agüero scored fourth goal (69). Goals. Argentina lined up: Caballero; Salvio, Otamendi, Fazio (46 Rojo), Tagliafico (71 Acuña); Mascherano, Lo Celso (75 Banega); Lanzini (59 Meza), Messi, Di María (59 Pavón); Higuaín (59 Agüero). National Team leave Argentina and head to Barcelona.

Last friendly before World Cup who would take place in Jerusalem on Saturday 9 against Israel was suspended.


Colón to South American Cup 2019; Racing too

May 14. In week 27 and last one of Superleague 2017/18, Racing lost 3-1 to Colón at the 'Cylinder'. They were winning with an own goal from Ortiz (2) but 'Sabaleros' turned the game around with goals from Estigarribia (8), Meli (own goal, 39) and Correa (83). Goals. Racing are out of Libertadores Cup 2019 (they needed a draw) and will play South American Cup as well as Colón which clinched last berth.

River beat San Lorenzo 2-0 at the Monumental stadium with goals from Nacho Fernández (54) and Borré (83). Goals.

Six teams will play South American Cup 2019: Independiente (46), Racing (45), River (45), Defensa y Justicia (44), Unión (43) and Colón (41). Argentinos Jrs (41) and Belgrano (40) are out but wait for a qualified team to win a Cup in 2018 to get an aditional place. Superleague 2018/19 start on August 10th.


Huracán and Talleres to Libertadores Cup 2019

May 12. In week 27 and last one of Superleague 2017/18, Huracán drew 3-3 with Boca in Parque Patricios. They were winning with goal from Pusetto (5). Champions turned the game around with a header from Más (32), goal from Bou (34) and header from Benítez (43). The 'Balloon' tied the game with one goal from Mendoza (64) and a header from Chávez (72). Highlights. Huracán qualified to group phase of Libertadores Cup 2019 after Racing's loss.

Talleres drew 2-2 with Olimpo in Bahía Blanca. They went ahead with a header from Silva (38). 'Black-yellow' team turned the scoring around with goals from Mancinelli (73) and Silva Torrejón (88). Goalkeeper Herrera scored the equaliser from a penalty (97). Goals. Talleres were almost out of Libertadores, but Racing lost one day later and the 'T' qualified to preliminary round.

Independiente lost 1-0 to Unión in Santa Fe with goal from Soldano at 46th minute.

Boca (58), Godoy Cruz (56), San Lorenzo (50) and Huracán (48) play group phase of Libertadores Cup 2019. Talleres (46) go to preliminary round and there are one berth left reserved for champions of Argentina Cup 2018. Independiente (46) wait for a qualified team to win a Cup in 2018 to get an extra ticket.


Boca champions

May 9. In the suspended game of week 25 of Superleague 2017/18, Boca drew 2-2 with Gimnasia at the 'Forest' and became champions. They were winning twice with goals from Pablo Pérez (12) and 'Wanchope' Ábila (57). The 'Wolf' managed to draw twice with one goal from Colazo (33) and a free kick from Alemán (81). Goals.

Boca, the champions, lead the standings with 57 points followed by Godoy Cruz with 53, San Lorenzo with 50, Huracán with 47, Independiente 46 and Racing and Talleres with 45. Arsenal, Olimpo, Tempeley and Chacarita are the four relegated teams.

Mar 14. In Argentine Super Cup, River (champions of Argentina Cup 2017) beat Boca (champions of Tournament 2016/17) 2-0 in Mendoza with a penalty from 'Pity' Martínez (18) and one goal from Scocco (70). Goals and celebration.

Cup Winners Cup 2018: Independiente runners-up on penalties

Feb 21. In the second leg of the Cup Winners Cup, Independiente drew 0-0 with Gremio in Porto Alegre and lost 5-4 in the shoot-out. Highlights. First nine shots were scored and Marcelo Grohe saved last penalty shot by Benítez.

Feb 14. In the first leg, Independiente (champions of South American Cup 2017) drew 1-1 with Gremio (champions of Libertadores Cup 2017) at Libertadores de América stadium. 'Red Devils' were losing with goal from Luan (22), lost Gigliotti because of a red card (28) and managed to draw with an own goal from Bruno Cortês (33). Goals.


South American Cup 2017: Independiente champions

Dec 13. In the second leg of the final, Independiente drew 1-1 with Flamengo at Maracaná stadium. They were losing with goal from Lucas Paquetá (30) but they managed to draw with a penalty from Barco (40). Goals.

'Red Devils' qualified for Libertadores Cup 2018 (Rosario Central take their place in South American Cup) and will also play Cup Winners Cup against Gremio on February 14 and 21 and Suruga Cup against Cerezo Osaka on August 8.

Dec 6. In the first leg, Independiente beat Flamengo 2-1 at Libertadores de América stadium. They were losing with a header from Réver (9) but they turned the scoring around with goals from Gigliotti (29) and Meza (53). Goals.


Argentina Cup 2017: River champions

Dec 9. In the final of 2017 edition, River beat At.Tucumán 2-1 in Mendoza with a header from Scocco (10) and a goal from Nacho Fernández (48). 'Pulga -Flee-' Rodríguez had scored the equalser for the 'Dean' (12). Goals.

At.Tucumán qualified to Libertadores Cup 2018 because the champions were already qualified.
River will face Boca (Champions of 2016/17 tournament) in Argentine Super Cup.

64 teams play in this competition: 30 from First A, 12 from National B, 5 from First B, 4 from First D, 2 from First D, 7 from Federal A and 4 from Federal B. Teams from Federal tournaments qualified in a preliminary phase. Teams from AFA qualified for the final position at the half of the 2016/17 season.


Libertadores Cup 2017: Lanús runners-up

Nov 29. In the second leg of the final, Lanús lost 2-1 to Gremio at the 'Fortress' with goals from Fernandinho (27) and Luan (42). 'Pepe' Sand closed the gap from a penalty (72). Goals.

Nov 22. In the first leg, Lanús lost 1-0 to Gremio in Porto Alegre with goal from Cícero at 83rd minute.

Six teams will play Libertadores Cup 2018: Boca, River, At.Tucumán, Estudiantes, Racing (group phase) and Banfield (preliminary round). The draw takes place on December 20.


Boca champions

Jun 20. In week 29 of 2016/17 tournament, Banfield lost 1-0 to San Lorenzo at 'New Gasometre' stadium with goal from Belluschi at 56th minute.

Boca, the champions, ended at the top of the standings with 63 points followed by River and Estudiantes with 56, Racing with 55 and Banfield with 54. These first five go to Libertadores Cup 2018. Then Independiente and San Lorenzo with 53, Lanús 50 and Newell's, Defensa y Justicia and Colón with 49. These last six go to South American Cup 2018. Superleague 2017/18 will start on August 25.

World Cup U-20: Argentina hammer Guinea but come back home

May 26. In the third match of group A of U-20 World Cup in South Korea, Argentina hammered Guinea 5-0 in Seogwipo with one goal from Torres (33), two from Lautaro Martínez (43, 79), a header from Zaracho (50) and a header from Senesi (74). Goals. Argentina ended in third place with a positive goal difference but only 3 points were not enough to become one of the 4 best third-placed and come back home finishing World Cup in 17th position out of 24.

May 23. In the second match, Argentina lost 2-1 to Korea in Jeonju with one goal from Lee Seung-woo (18) and a penalty from Paik Seung-ho (42). Torres closed the gap for Argentina (50). Goals.

May 20. In the first match, Argentina were hammered 3-0 by England in Jeonju. Goals. Lautaro Martínez was sent off at 78th minute.

Apr 27. Feb 4. In Argentine Super Cup, Lanús (champions of Transition 2016) hammered River (champions of Argentina Cup) 3-0 in La Plata with one goal from Acosta (70), a header from Pasquini (81) and a penalty from 'Pepe' Sand (88). Goals.

Tournament 2016 would come back on March 9.


Argentina Cup 2016: River champions and go to Libertadores Cup

Dec 15. In the final of the 2016 edition, River beat Rosario Central 4-3. They were winning with a penalty from Alario (11). The 'Scoundrels' turned the scoring around with goals from Musto (26) and Rubén (30). Alario scored the equaliser from a penalty (40). Rubén put Central ahead (63). 'Millonaires' turned the game around with goals from Alario (71) and Alonso (75). Goals.

River qualified to Libertadores Cup 2017.


South American Cup Winners Cup: River champions

Aug 25. In the second leg of South American Cup Winners Cup 2016, River beat Independiente Santa Fe 2-1 at the Monumental stadium with one goal from Driussi (3) and a header from Alario (51). Salaberry closed the gap for the Colombian team (65). Goals. River won their 5th international title with Marcelo Gallardo as coach.

Aug 18. In the first leg, River (champions of Libertadores Cup 2015) drew 0-0 with Independiente Santa Fe (champions of South American Cup 2015) in Bogota. Box score.


Olympic Games: Argentina out in first round

Aug 10. In Group D of Olympic Games Rio 2016, Argentina drew 1-1 against Honduras and were eliminated by goal difference. They were losing with a penalty from Lozano (75). They managed to draw with goal from Mauricio Martínez (90). Goals.

Portugal won Group D with 7 points followed by Honduras with 4.

Jul 25. Centennial Copa America: Argentina to the final after destroying home team

Jun 21. In semifinals of Centennial Copa America, Argentina thrashed USA 4-0 in Houston with a header from Lavezzi (3), a free kick from Messi (32) and two goals from Higuaín (50, 86). Goals. Argentina will play the final against Chile on Sunday at 9 pm in New Jersey.

Jun 18. In quarter-finals, Argentina hammered Venezuela 4-1 in Foxborough (Boston) with two goals from Higuaín (8, 28), one from Messi (60) and one from Lamela (71). Rondón had closed the gap from header (70) and Romero saved a 'panenka-style' penalty shot by Seijas(44). Goals. Talleres to First Division

Jun 5. Talleres from Córdoba became champions of National B. They are at the top of the standings with 47 points, followed by Chacarita with 39 and only two weeks left.

They take the place of Argentinos Jrs, which were relegated to National B.


Lanús champions

May 29. In the final match of Transition 2016 tournament, Lanús thrashed San Lorenzo 4-0 at Monumental stadium with a header from Benítez (18) and goals from Almirón (59), 'Pepe' Sand (74) and Acosta (89). Goals. Lanús became champions for the second time in their history.

May 28. In the match for the third place, Estudiantes won 1-0 against Godoy Cruz at Mario Kempes stadium with goal from Cavallaro at 16th minute and won a ticket to Libertadores 2017.

5 teams qualify for Copa Libertadores 2017: 1) Lanús (champions of Transition 2016), 2) San Lorenzo (runners-up of Transition 2016), 3) Estudiantes (third in Transition 2016). 4) Godoy Cruz (fourth in Transición 2016). 5th qualified will be Champions of Argentina Cup (or best placed if champions are already qualified).


Group A: San Lorenzo to the final

May 22. In week 16 of group A of Transition 2016 tournament, Godoy Cruz lost 2-0 to San Martín in San Juan with a header from Escudero (12) and a goal from Montagna (94). Goals. 'Tomba' had to get at least the same score than San Lorenzo but ...

Group B: Lanús to the final; Estudiantes play to go to the Cup

May 22. In week 16 of group A of Transition 2016 tournament, Estudiantes drew 1-1 with Unión in Santa Fe. They went ahead with goal from Cavallaro (54) but 'Tatengues' managed to draw with a header from García Guerreño (85). Goals.

May 22. At.Tucumán lost 2-1 to Newell's at Marcelo Bielsa stadium. They were losing with goal from Tévez (16), González scored the equaliser for the 'Dean' (70). They tried to win the game and a berth in the Cup but Mancini gave the victory to the 'Leprosy' in a counterattack (89). Goals.

Lanús ended at the top of the standings with 38 points followed by Estudiantes with 32 and At.Tucumán with 30. Lanús won the group, qualified for Libertadores Cup 2017 and will play the final against San Lorenzo on Sunday at the Monumental stadium. Estudiantes will play for the 3rd place against Godoy Cruz on Saturday -winners qualify for Libertadores Cup 2017 and also losers if there's no Argentine champion in South American Cup 2016-.

30 teams split in two groups of 15 and winners of each group play the final. There are 16 weeks, one against each team of the group, a derby between bye teams of each group and a week full of derbies, #12. There will be only one relegation. First two of each group qualify for Libertadores Cup 2017.

May 21. Sarmiento won 1-0 against Olimpo in Bahía Blanca with goal from Spinaci at 92th minute and send 'Little Red Bugs' to relegation.

In relegation standings Sarmiento avoided relegation with 47 points and Argentinos were relegated with 45.


Club World Cup: River wait for their rivals

Dec 10. In the first round of Club World Cup Japan 2015, Sanfrecce Hiroshima beat Auckland City 2-0 and face Mazembe from Democratic Republic of Congo on Sunday 13. Winners of this game face River in semifinals on Wednesday 16, 7:30 am.

Libertadores Cup 2016 Playoffs: Racing to Libertadores, Independiente to South American Cup

Dec 6. In the second leg of the final of Libertadores Cup play-offs, Racing lost 2-1 to Independiente at the 'Cylindre' but it was enough to qualify to Libertadores Cup 2016. 'Cebolla -Onion-' Rodríguez (free kick, 67) and Lucero (91) scored for 'Red Devils'. Lollo had scored the equaliser from a header (72) for the 'Academy'. Goals. Independiente ended with nine: Méndez and Ortiz were sent off.

Nov 29. In the first leg, Racing beat Independiente 2-0 at Libertadores de América stadium with goals from Bou (37) and Romero (41). Goals.

Suruga Bank Cup: River champions

Aug 11. In Suruga Bank Cup 2015, River (champions of South American Cup 2014) hammered Gamba Osaka (champions of Japanese Cup) 3-0 in Osaka with a penalty from Sánchez (8), a header from Mercado (31) and a goal from 'Pity' Martínez (61). Goals and celebration. River won their 9th international title, the 4th in one year with Marcelo Gallardo as coach.

This cup is not important at all but winners count it as a new international title.


Libertadores Cup 2015: River champions of America

Aug 5. In the second leg of the finals, River hammered Tigres 3-0 at the Monumental stadium with a header from Alario (45), a penalty from Sánchez (75) and a header from Funes Mori (79). Goals and celebration. River won this Cup for the third time (1986 and 1996) and qualified for Clubs World Cup in Japan in December and for South American Cup Winners Cup.

Apr 25. Third edition of the Argentine Supercup took place in San Juan between River (champions of Super Final 2013/14) and Huracán (champions of Argentina Cup 2013/14).

South American Cup 2014: River champions

Dec 10. In the second leg of the final, River beat Nacional de Medellín 2-0 at the Monumental stadium with headers from Mercado (55) and Pezzella (59). Goals. River won the Cup and will play South American Cup Winners Cup (Recopa) against San Lorenzo (February 6, 11), Suruga Cup against Gamba Osaka in Japan (August 11, 7 am) and qualified for 2015 edition of this Cup.

Dec 3. In the first leg, River drew 1-1 with At.Nacional in Medellín. They were losing with goal from Berrío (34) but they managed to draw with goal from Pisculichi (66). Goals.

Nov 27. In the second leg of semifinals, River beat Boca 1-0 at the Monumental with goal from Pisculichi at 16th minute. Boca had the chance to score an away goal from a penalty at first minute and force River to score at least twice, but Barovero saved the shot to Gigliotti.

Aug 6. In the first leg, San Lorenzo drew 1-1 with Nacional de Paraguay in Asunción. They went ahead with goal from Matos (65) but Santa Cruz scored the equaliser for home team (93), with twenty seconds left. Goals.


River winners of the Super Final

May 24. In the Super Final of season 2013/14, River won 1-0 against San Lorenzo in San Luis with a header from Pezzella at 73rd minute.

River qualified for South American Cup 2014 and Super Cup where they will face winners of Argentina Cup 2014 on December 7.

World Cup U-17: Argentina eliminated by penalties

Jun 30, 2011. In eighth-finals of U-17 World Cup in Mexico, Argentina drew 1-1 with England in Pachuca but lost 4-2 in the penalties shoot-out. Padilla opened the scoring for our National Team (12) and Sterling scored the equaliser for the English team (40). Goals and lineups. In the shoot-out, Ocampos and Pugh scored first two shots, but then, English keeper saved two shots kicked by Iñíguez and Allione.

South American Cup: King of Cups is back, Independiente champions

Dec 8, 2010. In the second leg of the final, Independiente beat Goiás 3-1 at Libertadores de América Stadium and then won 5-3 in the penalties shoot-out. Julián Velázquez opened the scoring for the 'Red Devils' (19). Rafael Moura scored the equaliser from a header for Goiás (22) and Parra scored twice (27, 34) to force the shoot-out. Goals. In the penalties, all five Independiente shooters scored: Maxi Velázquez, Parra, Gracián, Matheu and Tuzzio. Felipe missed the third shot for the Brazilian team. Shoot-out.
Independiente not only won the title, but also qualified for Libertadores Cup 2011.

Dec 1. In the first leg, Independiente lost 2-0 to Goiás at Serra Dourada Stadium with goals from Rafael Moura (15) and Otacílio Neto (21). Goals. 'Red Devils' ended with ten: Silvera was sent off at 57th minute.


Libertadores Cup: Estudiantes champions of America

Jul 15, 2009. In the second leg of the final, Estudiantes won 2-1 against Cruzeiro at the Mineirão Stadium in Belo Horizonte and they became champions of the Libertadores Cup for the fourth time in their history. They started losing with goal from Henrique at 52nd minute but they came from behind with goal from 'Gata -Pussycat-' Fernández (57) and a header from Boselli (73). Goals. In December, 'Pinchas' will play in the Club World Cup in United Arab Emirates with Barcelona and Mexican Atlante.

Olympic Games: Gold medal again !

Aug 23, 2008. In the final, Argentina beat Nigeria 1-0 with goal from Di María at 57th, chipping the ball over the goalkeeper after pass from Messi. Argentina lined up: Romero; Zabaleta, Garay, Pareja, Monzón; Mascherano, Gago; Messi (92nd Lavezzi), Riquelme; Di María (88th Banega), Agüero (79th Sosa). Argentina won the gold medal for second time in a row.

Aug 19. In semifinals, Argentina hammered Brazil 3-0 with two goals from Kun Agüero at 52nd and 57th after crosses from Di María and Garay and one penalty from Riquelme at 75th. Goals. Argentina lined up: Romero; Zabaleta, Garay, Pareja, Monzón; Mascherano, Gago; Messi, Riquelme (90th Sosa); Di María, Agüero. First half was levelled but in second half Argentina found spaces after the goals, Brazil lost control, ended with nine -Lucas and Thiago Neves saw the red card-, and the game ended in a historic victory.

Nov 30. In the first leg, Arsenal beat América 3-2 at México. They started losing with goal from Cabañas at 5th. Matellán scored the equaliser from a header at 31st. Argüello put the Mexican team ahead again at 53rd and "Papu" Gómez turned the score around with two goals at 56th and 65th. Arsenal ended with ten: Casteglione was sent off at 80th.


Historic third place for Los Pumas

Oct 19, 2007. Argentine rugby national team, Los Pumas, beat France 34-10 in the match for the third place of the 2007 Rugby World Cup in France. It was the best place for Los Pumas in the World Cups history.

World Cup U-20: Argentina hexachampions

Jul 22, 2007. In the final match of U-20 World Cup at Canada, Argentina beat Czech Republic 2-1 at Toronto and became champions for the sixth time in their history (1979, 1995, 1997, 2001, 2005). They started losing with goal from Fenin at 60th but they came back with goals from Kun Agüero at 62nd and Mauro Zárate at 85th. Argentina lined up: Romero; Mercado, Fazio, Sigali, Insúa; Sánchez, Banega, Piatti (80th Acosta), Moralez (92nd Cabral); M.Zárate, Kun Agüero.

Libertadores Cup: Boca champions for sixth time

Jun 20, 2007. In the second leg of the finals, Boca won 2-0 over Gremio at Porto Alegre with goals from Riquelme at 68th and 80th and won Libertadores Cup for sixth time in their history.

Jun 13. In the first leg, Boca hammered Gremio 3-0 with goals from Palacio at 18th after Palermo's cross from the left, Riquelme at 73rd - free kick, Morel touched the ball and Román shot- and and own goal from Patrício at 88th after Ledesma's header.


End of dream after shoot-out

Jun 30, 2006. In quarter-finals Argentina lost 4-2 to Germany on the penalties shoot-out at Berlin. The match had ended 1-1. Ayala opened the scoring from a header at 49th after Riquelme's corner-kick from the right. Klose, also from a header, scored the equaliser at 80th. In the penalties shoot-out, Alemania scored four; in Argentina, Cruz scored, Ayala got his shot saved, Maxi Rodríguez scored and Lehmann saved Cambiasso's shot. Argentina lined up Abbondanzieri (71st Leo Franco -Pato was injured-); Coloccini, Ayala, Heinze, Sorín; Lucho González, Mascherano, Maxi Rodríguez, Riquelme (72nd Cambiasso); Tévez, Crespo (78th Cruz). Argentina had control of the ball during first half and Germany after first Argentine goal. Argentina had two scoring chances from counterattack but couldn't take profit of them. In extra-time, Argentina suffered the substitutions and were not deep in attack, even though they had the ball during second half of extra time.

Jun 24. In eighth-finals, at Leipzig, Argentina beat Mexico 2-1 in extra time. Rafa Márquez opened the scoring for the Mexican team at 5th and Crespo scored the equaliser at 10th after a corner-kick shot by Riquelme from the right. In extra time, at 98th, Maxi Rodríguez received an air pass, stopped the ball with his chest out of corner of the area on the right, and shot high with his left foot before the ball touched the ground to the opposite angle of the goalkeeper. Argentina line up: Abbondanzieri; Scaloni, Ayala, Heinze, Sorín; Maxi Rodríguez, Mascherano, Cambiasso (76th Aimar), Riquelme; Saviola (84th Messi), Crespo (75th Tévez). Mexico had a very good start, played better than Argentina and deserved a bit more in first half. In second half, Mexico defended more but Argentina only had two clear goal chances. Argentina didn't play well but could take advantage thanks to a great shot.

Jun 21. In the third match of Group C in Frankfurt, Argentina and Netherlands ended in a scoreless draw. Argentina lined up: Abbondanzieri; Burdisso (24th Coloccini), Ayala, Milito, Cufré; Maxi Rodríguez, Mascherano, Cambiasso, Riquelme (80th Aimar); Tévez, Messi (70th Cruz). Argentina looked for the victory a bit more than the Netherlands but they were not as effective in the area as in previous games. It was not necessary to take many risks because we have to play again in three days for the final rounds.

Jun 16. In the second match of Group C in Genselkirchen, Argentina hammered Serbia & Montenegro 6-0. At halftime they were winning 3-0 with goals from Maxi Rodríguez at 6th after pass from Saviola from the left; Cambiasso at 31st, great goal after great team play with a wall pass between Cuchu and Crespo's backheels pass; and Maxi Rodríguez again at 41st shooting from the left to correct a Saviola's shot from the right which Serbian defense had saved. In second half, Crespo scored at 78th after Messi's pass from the left, Tévez extended the advantage at 84th dribbling on the left with two tunnels to the defenders and Messi closed the scoring at 88th. Lucho González got injured. Argentina lined up: Abbondanzieri; Burdisso, Ayala, Heinze, Sorín; Mascherano, Lucho González (17th Cambiasso), Maxi Rodríguez (75th Messi), Riquelme; Saviola (59th Tévez), Crespo. Argentina were very effective in first half and during second half they took advantage of Serbia keeping the 0-3 and played at excellent level with many skill plays.

Jun 10. In the first match at Hamburg, Argentina won 2-1 over Cote d'Ivoire. Crespo scored the first goal at 24th after a free kick from Riquelme from the left and rebound in the defense. Saviola extended the advantage at 38th after a great pass from Riquelme that let him alone with the goalkeeper. Drogba closed the gap at 82nd.
During first half Cote d'Ivoire had more possesion of the ball and attacked more but Argentina could take profit of their chances. Good job of our National Team defense. In the second half, Argentina controlled the game in the first twenty minutes and when Pekerman took Crespo out, the African team began to attack but they only could close the gap. Argentina lined up: Abbondanzieri; Burdisso, Ayala, Heinze, Sorín; Mascherano, Cambiasso, Maxi Rodríguez, Riquelme (92nd Aimar); Saviola (76th Luis González), Crespo (64th Palacio).

Messi gave the championship to Argentina from another penalty at 75th. Tévez, top scorer of the tournament with 8 goals, scored the only goal at 17th after Rosales' cross from the right to the near post. Argentina lined up: Lux; Coloccini, Ayala, Heinze; Lucho González, Mascherano, Kily González, D'Alessandro; Rosales, Tévez, Delgado (75th Clemente Rodríguez). Argentina was the best team of the tournament with 17 goals for and 0 goals against and deserved to bring a gold medal to Argentina after 52 years.
